In this monograph, Jonathas de Andrade’s work playfully dismantles “visual archetypes associated with tropical exoticism, the eroticisation of the male body, cultural mixing, and the representation of social and racial inequalities”.
We were particularly inspired by his approach, grounded in the deconstruction of power structures and, notably, his use of Augusto Boal’s theatrical methodologies — a reference close to our hearts at the studio. As a tribute to the legacy of Éditions Maspero, who first brought Boal’s writings to French readers in the 1970s, we borrowed their iconic typeface for this publication. A gesture of graphic homage and historical continuity.
